School of Global Studies, Thammasat University celebrates its 5 Year Anniversary with a diverse panel of experts and group discussions on the topic of “THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS” in Thailand in cooperation with TCDC.

On the occasion of the 5 Year Anniversary Celebration of Thammasat University’s School of Global Studies, for its International bachelor curriculum in Global Studies and Social Entrepreneurship (GSSE).

The What The Future?! speaker series, hosted by Thammasat University's School of Global Studies, is part of a collaboration with TCDC and was created to build stronger networks and communities across the city. These events include a panel discussion with prominent figures working in the field of social innovation in Bangkok and beyond, on various topics related to the future of social innovation and social entrepreneurship, that is then followed by coordinated breakout dialogue to draw on the wisdom of the room.

The topic of this month’s event is ‘THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS.’ The goal of the event is to discuss ways in which we can strengthen the social innovation ecosystem to create more sustainable systemic change, while creating a deepening ties within the community.

The event’s invited speakers are:

MR.MARTIN HART-HANSEN, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP Thailand. Martin was appointed Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP Thailand Country Office in April 2015, where he has introduced Social Innovation as a key development, partnership and engagement strategy.

MR. KAL JOFFRES,CEO and co-founder ofTandemic, an innovation firm based in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Bangkok. Tandemic focuses on applying new approaches to addressing business and social challenges ranging from preventing diabetes to improving the quality of education. Kal also teaches design thinking for transnational teams at Stanford University’s design school.

MS.TANYA ACCONE, Senior Adviser on Innovation and Deputy UNICEF Global Innovation Centre. Ms.Tanya leads UNICEF’s work to scale up proven innovations in multiple countries around the world. Her team supports 190 countries in applying innovations for real-time information, youth empowerment and access to information and learning. Especially today she accepted invitation to be guest moderator.

MR.SUNIT SHRESTA, Founder & Managing Director of ChangeFusion, a non-profit institute under Thai Rural Reconstruction Movement Foundation under the Royal Patronage. ChangeFusion supports social enterprises in various areas including appropriate technology for sustainable agriculture for lower income rural farmers, sustainable tourism and more. He also involved in innovative public policy fostering through different posts; second secretary (2010 - 2011) to the National Social Enterprise Committee chaired by the Prime Minister. He became an Ashoka Fellow in 2009.

MR. CHRIS OESTEREICH, a faculty member of the School of Global Studies at Thammasat University where he’s the Director of the school’s Publication unit, and he teaches courses related to sustainability and social innovation. Chris is also the publisher of the Wicked Problems Collaborative, an independent press that focuses on humanity’s biggest challenges, and he helps firms reduce environmental impacts through his firm, Linear to Circular.


School of Global Studies, Thammasat University was founded in 2012 with its flagship program, Bachelor of Arts in Global Study & Social Entrepreneurship – GSSE. This is a four-year international undergraduate degree program. It focuses on the new generation of people who care and want to contribute to change the understanding of social and environmental issues. GSSE program is designed to teach graduates to adopt business mechanisms as a creative tool to address sustainable social change process.

The GSSE program is an inter-disciplinary curriculum that fosters the development and delivery of International graduate students. And ready to meet the needs of today’s job market.
