Eligibility

Can I apply as an international student?
Yes! Most definitely. We accept applicants from students of all nationalities. Moreover, we also pioneering our program to welcome students without any nationalities, or students with a refugee/asylum-seeking status (with provided documents) to apply.

Admission

When is the admission period?

The admissions period typically starts from October to May of the following year. In other words, GSSE admissions are open almost all year round. Please have a look into our admissions schedule here which clearly details the specific dates and the process you will be going through if you applied in each round.

 
How many admission rounds each year?

Typically, there are a total of 4 rounds of admissions in an academic year

 
When is the period for GSSE scholarship application?

If you are looking to apply for a scholarship at GSSE, you must apply in Round 1 or Round 2 only. As we will be setting a committee to consider and interview candidates within these rounds only.

 
What types of scholarships are available?

There are three types of scholarships available for students who apply to GSSE with financial needs:

1.Tuition Scholarship
- 25% tuition fee waiver
- 50% tuition fee waiver
- 75% tuition fee waiver
- 100% tuition fee waiver

2.Stipend Scholarship
- giving the students a monthly stipend based on their financial needs

3.Tuition & Stipend Scholarship
- 100% tuition fee waiver & monthly stipend

Depending on your level of financial needs, demonstrated leadership and academic potential, the consideration and provision of scholarships will differ for each candidate.

What are the english language requirements for application?
Please refer to this minimum requirement for English scores, you only have to submit one:

- TU-GET paper-based (PBT) 500 and up
- TU-GET computer-based (CBT) 61 and up
- TOEFL paper-based (PBT) 500 and up
- TOEFL Internet-based (IBT) 61 and up
- IELTS 6.0 and up

 
How many students do you accept a year?

Depending on the amount of students applying that year, we will be accepting 40 to 70 students each year into our new cohort.

 
How do I submit all the documents?

You can submit your documents online by clicking 'APPLY NOW' on our GSSE webpage. It will instantly direct you to an online application form.

 
How do I prepare my high school graduation certificate and transcript?

You should prepare the graduation certificate and transcript from the High School or the Senior High School you have attended. Any document from the institution that corresponds to that of Korea’s high school is accepted. If your diploma qualifies you to apply to universities in your country, your diploma will be recognized.

What should I have to qualify for a scholarship?

In order to apply and qualify for the GSSE scholoarships, you must:

  1. Have an overall GPA of at least 2.5
  2. Have a qualified English score (see here)
  3. Have a high school diploma, or an equivalent of a diploma, or a GED with at least 145 score on each subject.
  4. Demonstrate academic excellence in your SOP and interview
  5. Demonstrate leadership in your SOP and interview
  6. Demonstrate your dream(s), or plan(s) you have for the future in your SOP and interview
  7. Demonstrate your financial needs in your SOP and interview

 

Do your best in crafting out your SOP, and in the interview, as these will become a part of considering and providing the type of scholarship which will suit you most.

What is the duration of the program?
  • Semester 1: August to December
  • Winter break: During the free time of December to January
  • Semester 2: January to May 
  • Summer: During the free time of May to the end of July
  • August - December 16 January - May 14 June - July
 
Do I have to partake in the summer pre-program course?

Yes, it is mandatory for every first year GSSE student to participate in this pre-program course. This course is designed to build a solid foundation and break the ice among students from various backgrounds, most importantly to prepare and set you up for a smooth transition into the first semesters, the culture and expectations when you study at GSSE. 

 
What is Global Studies?

Global Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study which deals with analyzing phenomena related to globalization, evaluate situations through relevant theories and concepts, demonstrate understanding of contemporary social and ethical issues, communicate and collaborate effectively, and participate in a rapidly changing global community as informed and civically engaged citizens and the agent of change.

 
What is Social Entrepreneurship?

The practitioners of Social Entrepreneurship field are professionals and academics who:

  • - Develop ventures that make a positive impact
  • - Respond to social challenges in ways that are innovative and enterprising 
  • - Strive to achieve social value
 
How is social entrepreneurship different from other social science fields, e.g., social policy and development?

Social Entrepreneurship stresses the importance of creating social value through the development of innovative solutions to unmet needs.

 
How many credits is the program?

You will have to complete the required 129 credits throught the four years to graduate from GSSE.

 
How is the 4-year program divided?

Teaching and learning are divided into four years or 8 semesters with the following modules:

  • - Societies & Governance 
  • - Globalization
  • - Social Innovation
  • - Managing Social Innovation 
  • - Senior Projects 1 and 2

Who are the faculties at GSSE?

GSSE Faculties are a diverse team of practicing professionals from leading international organizations such as the World Bank, World Health Organization, UNDP, UNICEF, UN Women, and IDEO.org. Moreover, our international faculty (70%) are from all over the world such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, , Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Austria, and Thailand and have graduated from leading universities such as Harvard University, Stanford University, Columbia University, John Hopkins, UCLA, La Sorbonne in Paris and leading universities in Thailand.

 

What is the exchange program like?

At GSSE, students can apply for exchange programs offered by Thammasat University. Thammasat University has partnerships with numerous top universities such as, Malmo University in Sweden, the University of Queensland in Australia and Yonsei University in Korea. In the past, some of our students have gone on exchange programs to Japan, through

What would be a related field of study for Graduate school?

Directly related degrees in graduate school would be in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Development, Management, and International Affairs. However, within four years at GSSE, our graduates would have had a chance to develop and find their passion, which could lead to numerous other fields to pursue further education such as Technology, Environment, and Education.

 
What's the classroom like in GSSE?

The classes at GSSE are highly project-based, discussion-led, and practical. This means that you can expect to form groups with your classmates to tackle a challenge as part of your class assigments, and to engage in debates and discussions of challenges and creative solutions with your friends, rather than typical lecture-based style teaching and individual work (we still have those sometimes). In a nutshell, the classroom at GSSE is dynamic and mostly characterized by participation. 

 
How international is the program? 

The GSSE program is one of the most international programs in all of Thailand, with international students representing at least 30% of the class of every year. Over several years, we have been welcoming international students who join us every year, from many different countries around the world, such as Japan, South Korea, United States, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Canada, Bhutan and Nepal, to name just a few. In addition to the full-time students here, we also welcome exchange students from other countries to come study with us on a one- or two-semesters basis in our faculty in Rangsit campus. 

 
What are the careers for graduates?

The careers for our graduates are diverse in their natures, levels, and functions, spanning across the private, public and social sector. On an overview, GSSE graduates enjoy the statistical positions of a 100% employment rate, and a the highest average salary in all of graduates (up to 50,000THB/month, 2019). What is Work Study program at GSSE?

Once you are a student at GSSE, you can apply to work part-time to earn money in the Work Study program organized by the faculty. WS program allows students to engage in paid tasks and assignments related to the day-to-day and strategic of School of Global Studies. Students will be supervised by a work-study supervisor who will assign (but not more than 20 hours) per month. This is a suitable opportunity for those of you who are looking to earn a stipend while living at the campus.

 
When do I get to go for an exchange year during GSSE?

A lot of exposure to new cultures, knowledge, experiences, and friends that are different than in Rangsit campus. Depending on where you choose to go, you will have to prepare yourself and adjust differently. The GSSE students who went for an exchange (in the US an Japan) typically stayed and studies there for one year before coming back to resume their study at GSSE. All of them will recommend you to pursue this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity if you can. 

 
At the GSSE, Do students need to go an internship?

Each internship program will serve the purpose of following CBLI guideline: 

  • - CBLI 1 (First-year students): the internship should focus on understanding community, community-based projects, or community-based research.
  • - CBLI 2 (Second-year students): the internship should focus on understanding the world at large, globalization, and international relations. 

The organizations should be international organizations or students should be able to explore more in the areas mentioned by completing their tasks at their internship programs.  

  • - CBLI 3 (Third-year students): the internship should be involved in business and entrepreneurship.
  • - Senior Internship Track (optional)
