Istvan is an educator with many years of experience in student-centered learning methods including team-based learning and the case method. He has been mentoring students in project management in class and in social impact assessment projects for social enterprise clients since 2021.

His previous research projects have covered social issues and social innovations in Thailand, including the situation of small-scale farmers in the northeast, cooperative saving groups among migrants near the Thai-Myanmar border, and the issue of food waste in semi-urban and rural areas.
