What does it mean to truly understand a community?

For the second-year students of the School of Global Studies and Social Entrepreneurship (GSSE), the answer could not be found in a classroom alone.

From 4–17 June 2026, Cohort 11 embarked on the GSSE Field Immersion 2026, spending two weeks in Huai Ngu and Bang Khut villages in Chainat Province. Living and learning alongside local residents, students stepped beyond textbooks and lectures to experience the realities of community life firsthand.

Divided into four groups, students engaged with community members, observed daily life, and explored issues related to livelihoods, local development, and social challenges. Through these experiences, they discovered that meaningful understanding begins with listening—taking the time to learn from the people who live these realities every day.

The immersion challenged students to see beyond assumptions and appreciate the resilience, knowledge, and strengths that exist within communities. It also reinforced an important lesson: creating positive social change requires empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to learn from others.

As they returned to campus, students brought back more than field notes and research findings. They carried new perspectives, deeper connections, and a stronger understanding of the role they can play in building a more inclusive and sustainable future.

The GSSE Field Immersion 2026 was more than a field study—it was a journey of learning, reflection, and growth.
