The CBLI 1 (Community-based Learning Initiative 1) 2021 joined by cohort 7 students in Khonkaen province has already wrapped up last Friday.
This GSSE practical course (CBLI 1) aims to immerse students into the local communities to utilize their social inquiry skills learnt from GS211: Social Inquiry & Assessment. The goal is to provide an immersive environment where they are challenged to hone in on their empathy, researcher’s mindset, community development skills, and leadership out in the field.
The theme for this year’s CBLI1 has been intervention for local resource management, differing with each village: from bamboo hand-weaving, soil improvement, making of organic fertilizer, tree growth assessment, to marketing for local products.
During the two-week immersion in seperate villages where students stayed and spent most time learning with the locals, they were always encouraged to reflect and work on these important questions: What local issues do you aim to solve? How does your project address the problem? and What are its social and/or environmental impacts?
On the last day, 24th December, all students and villagers gathered at the community center to listen to the final presentations. The results impressed the locals and the farewell had been warmhearted.
