Dear students,
This message is in regards to the Coronavirus originating from Wuhan, China. In order to monitor the situation within Thammasat community, we would appreciate it if you would notify us if anyone in your household has any contact with persons from the main affected areas. If there has been any contact, please monitor the health of all members of your household on a daily basis and seek medical advice if any flu-like symptoms are observed. The latest information from health authorities states it could take up to 14 days to develop symptoms after exposure.
We would like to review steps we can all take immediately at home, at university and at work, to minimise risks:
- Everyone should wash their hands often with soap and water. This is especially important when returning home after being out and about in the city
- Use a hand-sanitizer when out and about
- Do not share personal items like drinks, food and utensils
- Cover nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. If no tissue is available, then use the inside of elbow or sleeve
- Know the signs and symptoms: The Coronavirus presents similar to the flu. Symptoms of the flu are a fever of 38 degrees Celsius or higher, cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea
- Stay home for at least 24 hours after a fever has gone without using fever-reducing drugs
These precautions remain the most effective in reducing cross-infection.
Monitor and Support:
Should this virus become more prevalent in our area, we may need to take additional steps to prevent the virus from spreading and will notify you of these.
If any student is enduring a fever, they should stay home until they are fever-free, and have a Doctor certificate stating that they are well enough to return to university.
As with all university, we have flu on campus every year, however because of the potential consequences of the Coronavirus, it is important that the university, students, staff, and parents, take extra precautions to maximize health and minimize possibilities for spreading illness.
With kind regards,
